Very, very inspirational and funny memoir on writing and life by Stephen King (Yes, the one who writes all those 'horror' books, Carrie etc.)
Extremely useful when writing, thinking of writing, and generally looking for a really insightful and encouraging read.

By Mark Strand and Eavan Boland
Really useful book of poetic forms with intensive examples and history.
From the Villanelle to Open Forms like Freeverse - a must have for any lover of poetry!
Types of Shape
By John Hollander
Hollander's book of Concrete Poetry or 'Shape Poems' is a rare find.
Lots of thoughtful examples. I have it in my shelf. I even bought it in Hardback because it's so good :]
Exploring the Language of Poems, Plays and Prose
By Mick Short
This is a very detailed and dense book. Good for dipping into when doing assignments, or proofing your work.
Has great examples of styles and forms of writing.
An excellent resource.
The Freelance Writer's Handbook
By Andrew Crofts
Highly recommended book. Covers everything you need to know about getting published.
Like Stephen King's On Writing, this book also gives you a taste of the authors life.
